Kokopelli swung his baseball bat like a gentleman's walking stick. *Swish* *flourish* *swish* *click* and repeat. However, for all his gaiety his eyes were hard, scanning the tree lined pathway for any sign of movement. This silly job at the company was merely a cover for his place in the FBI. In all actuality he would never have stuck himself behind a desk, ever, if he hadn't known he could bash heads at night and on weekends. It was an entertaining, and dangerous, business, that was for sure.

Suddenly a bang from behind him made him spin around. Guns didn't frighten him, he had hardly bat an eye at the explosive sound, but they normally meant trouble. Normally. He tucked back his ears in annoyance as Eula berated Maltiri for his trigger happy tendencies. Pelli didn't know much about Tiri, but over the past few weeks he had learned he had a military past, and overly dramatic tendencies. Though he guessed most veterans did. The two of them got along grand though because of this. Pelli was more dramatic in the lighthearted way, except now. Now he was just annoyed. Squirrel or not a man from a military background such as his should know not to give away position. He sighed. Oh well, maybe he'd get to bash some zombies. That would be a tale for his kids, if he ever had any. His mind wandered to Wasp. He wondered where she was... He shook his head, why should he think of Wasp when he thought of kids? He didn't lo... he looked at the bat, suddenly self conscious for no reason. Did he?

His thoughts were interrupted by Maltiri rallying the troops. He smiled, now that was a more effective way of doing things. Not just shooting silver bullets and hoping you hit some nightmare in the dark. At his whisper Pelli chuckled.

"Void? Protect anyone? Are you kidding?"

But then Tiri's theatrics took hold and he went all Shakespearean. Pelli couldn't help but smile. Ah, but a touch of theater could bring so grand a feeling to his heart. He clapped Tiri on the back.

"You, my friend, have made it to the top of my awesome list." He turned to everyone else. "Maltiri is right. Each of you has a weapon that should be used in different ways. Feel free to get creative though. We're not in the 18th century here. Tiri, I want you to take hind if that's all right. Pan, come on up here with me. Your arrows will be good to back me up. Void and Eula, take center and help hind or front when ever they need it. And don't go firing at every rustled branch, Tiri my man. If it really is a zombie it wont move fast enough to get you between the trees and the path with reflexes like yours."

A scream from the opposite direction tore Pelli's eyes the other way. It came from the staff cabin. He flattened his ears. He had to stick with the group... but... No, they had Delita. And... Wasp... His heart wrenched a little bit that time. Wasp had gone to the staff cabin that evening. He knew she could handle herself but... He tore his eyes forward.

"Come on, we need to keep moving. Those folks will be fine. That was probably that proper one, Galinda. She'd scream at a snail. Besides, they have Delita up there and we all know he's tough! Stick together, we're half way there."

MOD POST: ZOMBIES

'BANG' The report echoed through the trees and with noises like the snapping of dead twigs, four heads swiveled slowly - and in once case, wobblingly - in the direction of the sound. They'd been lumbering quite aimlessly across a gravel road, out of no more instinct than the lack of trees providing the path of least resistance, and with strangely unison, shuffling steps they all turned and began follow the sound to its source. Two of them were in a bad state of decay, features and even gender long since rotted away. From the discoloration and bloating, and the fact that what few tatters remained of their clothes were still quite sodden, they had obviously come up from the lake. Drowning victims, perhaps? The other two were newer, covered in dirt and leaves and detritus and their cause of death was obvious - both throats sliced clean across and left gaping - and spoke of nefarious happenings and shallow graves. No sounds issued from those mouths, while only watery burbles could be heard from the other pair as all four trudged with unearthly purpose towards whatever had made that awful, enticing noise.

(ooc: Many apologies for not giving you guys something to do sooner! Your group had been getting lucky rolls and then life caught up to me and I've been slacking in my modly duties. Since you're nearing the Lodge, this group will be coming up the main road.)

Eula was both annoyed and amused at the assumption she needed 'protected', although she was pragmatic enough to stay in the middle of the pack and not make an issue of it.

Therefore, when the four shambling figures appeared Eula was not the closest person to the group, but it seems that she WAS the first person to see them. "What is *that*?" she called, loudly enough to draw the attention of everyone else in the group. When the bodies were close enough to make out deails, Eula's lip curled in disgust. The necrotized flesh disturbed her on a viscreal level, and it suddenly became crystal clear that, oh yes, the whole thing wasn't just an elaborate put-on. The slick, gaping edges of the throat wounds on two of the creatures made Eula recoil-- and then mad at her own reaction.

Not, however, mad enough to do something stupid like step out in front of the group to meet the monstrosities. Instead, Eula gripped her metal pole a bit tighter and waited for her colleagues.

Kokopelli was looking to his left when Eula's voice caught his attention and he snapped his gaze forward. He froze.

"Great mother above..."

Four ambling creatures came at them. He rubbed his eyes at first, hoping he was dreaming, that maybe this was just horribly great acting, but no... He had seen a lot in his life. In fact, he had seen bodies that looked just like these. But never had they walked. He readied his bat and took a few breaths to calm his heart. He could feel adrenaline pounding through his veins and his head wasn't screaming fight like normal, but fly. He would do no such thing however when there were so many people counting him. He turned to Pan.

"Boy, now it's time to show me your skill. Think you can hit one of those suckers in the skull? Go for the watery ones. They're flesh and bones will be far more decayed thanks to their previous graves," He turned to Maltiri, "You sir, aim for the ones with the slit throats. Bullets might not do too much... But if those cuts are deep enough it may help to knock their heads off. Both of you should stay back if necessary. Just watch, both of you, that you don't hit us living folk if we need to get in there with blunt objects which, I'm fairly certain, we will," and in a murmured undertone he added. "Alma help us all as we go about it too..."

Pan could only stand and stare as Tiri went into his theatrics. With one eyebrow raised, he waited patiently for the stallion's moment to be over. He wasn't one for being overly dramatic, not to mention this was hardly the time for it. He wasn't going to complain though, and allowed Tiri to finish. But when he was done and resumed directing them he couldn't help but lower both of his eyebrows together. He was grouped with Eula in the category of "needs protecting." He was young, but he was no foal. He would just have to show them that he was just as helpful as any other stallion.

It was nice to hear that Pelli seemed to have at least a little bit more confidence in him, and he was just about to move up next to the blue, paint stallion when the scream rang through the air. The halfgrown felt all his hairs stand on end, and he quickly slung the bow in front of him, despite the fact that the scream came from elsewhere in the camp. Grabbing an arrow, he stared around wide-eyed for a second, then stepped up next to Pelli.

Eula yell of disgust caused him to spin around, and seeing her face, his head jerked to follow her gaze. He blanched. His dark blue eyes quickly scanned the zombies bodies, taking in what seemed impossible. Pan's throat constricted, but he gulped down his urge to gag. Realizing the stallion next to him was speaking, he turned an ear, without moving his eyes from the hideous corpses. The only response he made to show he understood was to nod slowly, his mind already racing over all the steps to hit a perfect bulls eye.

The arrow was notched, and he raised it level to his right eye, closing the other. Steadying his breathing, he stood still for a second, watching closely as one of the bloated victims ambled towards them. He wasn't sure how you killed something that was already dead, but he might as well go for the brain. The zombie he stared at opened it's mouth, water dripping out down its decayed chin, and he let loose the arrow. Not waiting to see if he actually hit the target, he was already getting out a second arrow. He notched and sighted it quickly on the second water-logged unicorn, and let that arrow fly towards its head.
